ATTENTION TO SEXUAL AND GENDER DIVERSITY FROM JAUME I UNIVERSITY (CASTELLÓ)
ABSTRACT
Despite the legislative and social advances of the last decade in the affective-sexual sphere, both sexual orientation and identity still represent a source of discomfort and discrimination for a large part of the society. Facing this panorama and in line with international agreements such as the Shanghai Declaration (World Health Organization, 2016) or the Sustainable Development Goals (2015), the Jaume I University of Castelló also joins the challenge of strengthening the institution as a well-being promoter environment, favouring the LGTBI population inclusion, in addition to preventing and eradicating any discrimination situation. From this point, the program of “Actions to work on affective-sexual and gender diversity” of the Jaume I University is developed, reflected in the II Equality Plan. This program includes four action lines: (1) training the entire university community in sexual and gender diversity matters, (2) psychological care and discrimination attention through the Violet-Rainbow Point and the care protocol in cases of LGBTI-phobic discrimination, (3) promoting student participation through the UJIPRIDE group, and (4) promoting research on sexual diversity; as well as the social commitment integration and university extension through raising awareness in our society. In conclusion, the program experience validates an action proposal that enhance the Jaume I University as a promoter of the LGBTI community inclusion. Thereby, our university is aware of the importance that the participation of the entire university community has to achieve an inclusive university model in LGTBI matters.
