Sexuality in ASD
Talking about sexuality with teenagers has always been considered a difficult issue. Embarrassment tends to prevail among parents and educators when it comes to dealing with this issue, over the need of providing them with the tools they need for a healthy psychosexual development. This is especially noticeable in teenagers whose rigidity and lack of social skills makes them seen as unable to understand anything related to sexuality. We are referring to teenagers with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Motivated by this deficit, we are working on a research project that aims to contribute to the formation of attitudes, knowledge, skills, etc., in these teenagers. For this purpose, we have developed a sexual-affective education program for teenagers with ASD and we are currently exploring the effectiveness of this program.
