PRACTICES IN THE PREVENTION AND DETECTION OF SEXUAL ABUSE IN PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES

SUMMARY

IVASS, aware of the direct relationship between professional practices and quality of life and treatment of people, has been developing various training activities and the gradual implementation of different tools aimed at respecting the rights of people with disabilities who receive care in the resources of the entity. Within this dynamic, IVASS has been working on training its professionals for the development of socio-affective skills programs for people with intellectual disabilities and the implementation of various tools that promote good treatment of people in their services. Within this framework, IVASS has developed a protocol for incident management in its centers, including a specific procedure for dealing with people who may have been victims of sexual abuse or harassment, which establishes, in some situations, the need for an assessment by an external expert carried out by experts in forensic psychology and intellectual disability that allow dimensioning the actions to be taken by the entity. The aim of this round table is to make known both experiences, both the formative-preventive and the forensic procedure that the entity promotes.
